About This Event
Sound to Narrows™ offers a variety of distances and events for people of all walks of life. The 12k run and walk traverses the scenic and hilly terrain of west Tacoma and beautiful Point Defiance Park. The 5k run and walk is a fast, yet challenging, course. A 1.2-mile Junior Shuffle tests the hearts and legs of children 10 and younger, while the Diaper Dash — a fan favorite — is a showcase for Olympians in the making.
ONLINE REGISTRATION
Online registration is open until noon on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, PDT.
ONLINE PROCESSING FEE
A processing fee of $1.00, plus 4.5% of the entry or merchandise fee amount, will be included in the total price to register.

WAVE DETERMINATION
Sound to Narrows has a wave start. The color of your participant bib number will be determined by your anticipated per-mile pace, which will correspond with your starting time for the 12k event. If you want to run with someone, please select the same anticipated per-mile pace. Be sure to start with your assigned group so your actual finish time will be listed accurately in the results. 12K RUN PACE, minutes per mile time:
7:30 or faster - Green Wave
7:31 to 8:30 - Yellow Wave
8:31 or slower - Red Wave
CHIP TIMING
Both 12K and 5K running races will be timed using Winning Time chip technology. It will be available to all paid, running participants. You may pick-up your chip when registering. Be sure to return your chip on the day of the event or you will be charged a replacement cost. Both walking events, 2K Junior Shuffle, and Diaper Dash are untimed and non-competitive. All untimed participants will not be listed on the online results page.
I understand that I must return the timing chip. Failure to do so will result in a $30 replacement fee. Chips may be turned into any South Sound Running stores.*
EVENT PHOTOGRAPHS
Brightroom (http://www.brightroom.com/view_event.asp?EVENTID=11624) will have photographers positioned along the race route and at the finish line of the 2011 Roman Meal Sound to Narrows. Brightroom will notify you by email when your race-day photographs are ready. For that purpose, be sure to include your email address on your registration form.
VOLUNTEERS
An event of this magnitude cannot be safely conducted without the help of hundreds of people. Please call (253)403-3065 or click on "How to Volunteer" at www.soundtonarrows.org to volunteer. All volunteers receive an official Sound to Narrows Vounteer T-shirt.
PUBLISHED RACE RESULTS
Complete 12k and 5k race results will be available online at www.soundtonarrows.org beginning Sunday, June 12, 2011. Junior Shuffle, Diaper Dash, and both 12K and 5K walks are non-competitive and will not be timed or listed.
AWARDS
Age group competition will be held in the 12k and 5k runs only. The top three men's and women's winners in the 12k run will receive special awards and recognition, while the top 3 finishers in each age group will be mailed commemorative ribbons. Those 44 and younger must register and start in the green wave to be eligible for the overall awards. Achievement ribbons will mailed to the top three registered wheelchair finishers.
SOUND TO NARROWS FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY
Participants are encouraged to raise funds for the prevention and education programs of the MultiCare's Center For Healthy Living. The Roman Meal Sound to Narrows benefits health and wellness in our community through events promoting physical activity and good nutrition, essential elements in preventing childhood obesity. BABY JOGGERS, STROLLERS & PETS
Due to safety and insurance concerns,wheeled devices, such as strollers, in-line skates or bicycles will not be permitted in the 12k run. Strollers and baby joggers are welcome on the 5k course and the 12k walk, or the 2k Junior Shuffle course. For those walking the 12k, participants exceeding one hour for the first three miles will be required to use a shortcut...shortening the distance to five miles. Pets are not allowed on any of the event courses.

Waiver and Release
WAIVER AND RELEASE: I know that running a road race, or participating in an organized walking event, regardless of the distance, includes an element of risk. I should not enter and participate in Sound to Narrows(tm) 2011 (hereinafter "this event") unless I am medically able and properly trained. I agree to abide by all rules of event. I agree to abide by any decision of an event official relative to my ability to complete this event safely and I further agree that event officials may authorize necessary emergency treatment for me. I also understand that, although police protection will be provided, both vehicle traffic and spectators will be present along the course and I assume the risk of participating under such conditions. I further assume any and all other risks associated with participating in this event including, but not limited to, illness, traveling to and from the event, falls, contact with other spectators or participants, the effects of the weather (including temperature extremes and humidity) and the surface conditions of the roads and sidewalks, all such risks being understood and appreciated by me. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, and in consideration of the acceptance of my entry, I hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators or anyone else who might claim on my behalf, covenant not to sue, and waive, release and discharge MultiCare Health System, MultiCare Health Foundation, Metropolitan Park District, Pierce County Parks Department, Hamilton Events, Inc., the City of Tacoma, Tacoma News, Inc., their officers, agents and employees, event officials, volunteers and any and all other sponsors, suppliers, agents, independent contractors, employees and any other personnel in any way assisting or connected with this event from any and all claims or liability of any kind or nature whatsoever arising out of my participation in this event, even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons or parties named in this waiver. I also understand and agree that any sponsor may subsequently use, for publicity or promotional purposes, my name or pictures of me participating in this event without liability or obligation to me. Entries from minors will be accepted only with a parent or legal guardian's signature. Insufficient information will result in your entry being returned.
