Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint
Bend, OR
About This Event
The Pilot Butte Challenge is a 1-mile run / fitness walk. The scenic course winds its way up from the base of Pilot Butte along the nature trail to the top - 493 feet of elevation gain!

All net proceeds will benefit and help to maintain and enhance Pilot Butte State Park.

Please note: The road to the summit and all other trails are closed during this event. A shuttle to the top is provided for non-racers.
Awards and Prizes
The top overall male and female and the overall male and female masters runners (40+) will receive special awards. Medals will be awarded three-deep in each age group.

The mission of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is to provide and protect outstanding natural, scenic, cultural, historic and recreational sites for the enjoyment and education of present and future generations.

Registration Info
Online Registration will close at 6:00pm on Thurs. 9/27.

Registration may be done in-person at the Packet Pick-up on Fri. 9/28 from 4:00 to 7:00pm

You may also register on Race Day, Sat. 9/29 from 7:30am to 8:30am.
Packet Pick-up
Packet pick-up is on Friday, 9/28, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, at REI in the Three Smokestacks building in the Old Mill.

Late Packet Pick-up (at Race Start)
Sat. 9/29 from 8:00am to 8:45am

You must have your BIB number in order to race. Last pick-up time is 8:45am race day.

Directions and Parking
Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint is located on on the east side of Bend.

Turn North off Hwy 20 (Greenwood Ave) onto NE Azure to the (stop sign) T intersection. Turn left onto NE Savannah and take your first left onto NE Linnea follow this road into the Pilot Butte east side parking lot.
Wave Starts and Timing
This is the projected Wave Starts & Timing schedule and is subject to change based on the number of entrants
Racers must race with in their own age group.

9:00am Men/Women 13-29; 30-39
9:05am Men/Women 40-49; 50-59
9:15am Men/Women 60-69
9:25am Men/Women 12 & under; 70 & up

I know that participating in a running or walking event, regardless of the distance, includes an element of risk. I understand that I should not enter and participate in the 2012 Pilot Butte Challenge Run/Walk (hereinafter “this event”) on September 29, 2012, unless I am medically able and properly trained. I agree to abide by any decisions of an event official relative to my ability to complete this event safely and I further agree that event officials may authorize necessary emergency treatment for me. I further assume any and all other risk associated with participating in this event including, but not limited to, illness, traveling to and from the event, falls, contact with spectators or other participants, and the surface condition of the road, sidewalks, and trail all such risk being understood and appreciated by me. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, and in consideration of the acceptance of my entry, I hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators or anyone else who might claim on my behalf, covenant not to sue, and waive, release and discharge all subsidiaries, affiliates, assigns, representatives and successors of the foregoing: The Oregon State Parks, City of Bend, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, event sponsors, officials, volunteers, and any and all suppliers, agents, independent contractors, employees and any other personnel in any way assisting or connected with this event from any and all claims or liability of any kind or nature whatsoever arising out of my participation in this event. I also understand and agree that any sponsor may subsequently use, for publicity or promotional purposes, my name or pictures of me participating in this event without liability of obligation to me. Entries cannot be accepted without acceptance of this release. Entries from minors will only be accepted with a parent or legal guardian’s acceptance of this release on the minor’s behalf.

The Oregon Tort Claims Act (ORS 39.260 to 30.300)
Permits Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (ORPD) to accept responsibility only for the acts of its officers, employees and/or agents. ORPD is prohibited from accepting aby liability for the acts, omissions and conduct of persons participating in activities, I indemnify, defend and hold harmless the State of Oregon, ORPD, its officers, agents and employees from all claims, suits or actions of any nature arising out of my activity or my child’s participation in the above described activity other than negligent acts of ORPD, it officers , employees or agents.
