Description of the Cause: Water. It’s essential for life. It’s something we take for granted. But 1.1 billion people in the world at this moment don’t have access to safe water. Every day, women and children face the hardship of collecting water from long distances for their families. Once home, this dirty water endangers lives and prevents children from growing up into strong, healthy adults.

Christ Church Greensboro is sponsoring this 5K run on Saturday, November 17th to make a difference. We are teaming up with Compassion International and their “Water of Life” program. Compassion has developed a filtering system that can convert dirty water into safe, healthy drinking water free of harmful bacteria. Each system is able to purify enough water for a family – for life. Each filtering system costs only $55. To learn more about this life-saving program you can view this short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVvZcPQTGpY (Youtube: “Water of Life” [4:43]).

The average distance children and women walk to obtain water in the developing world is about the same as a 5K. Our 5K event is designed to: (a) raise awareness of this present need & opportunity; and (b) raise funds to purchase water filters for as many families as possible.
