About This Event
(RACE IS NOW FULL AT 650 ENTRANTS. NO LONGER ACCEPTING ANY ENTRIES. Please do not call or email. Note: FLS will sell any unclaimed Try Andy's race packets on Sat Oct 19 at 5pm, the day before the race, for $85 cash or check. Line forms outside on the sidewalk at Finish Line Sports in Sugar Creek at 4:00pm Oct 19. There should be plenty available then.) This is a GREAT TRI for experienced triathletes, as well as well-prepared first-timers who can swim open water.(Newbies must be COMPETENT swimmers in open water, especially kids. Must swim 12:00 or better for 300 meters in open water to participate.) Our 21st ANNUAL and popular! A 300-meter straight-shot, wide, point-to-point lake swim in First Colony next to the transition area/ 10-mile bike on a safe, divided four-lane boulevard with plenty of SLPD protection/ 3-mile double-loop shaded neighborhood run with four water stations. Late October weather is normally pleasantly cool, but not extremely cold. In 2012, air temp was 72 degrees and water temp was 80 degrees. Many in the field are first-timers, who will receive first-timer medals at Memorial Hermann tent, as well as hundreds of multi-year returnees. All ages 10-80 are welcome. Must be 10 or older to race. Must be a current annual USAT member for $45 at www.usatriathlon.org (preferred), or be billed for a one-day $12 USAT license online. Annual membership for 17-and-under youths is $15. Ages 17-and-under and Collegiate Tri Team members are ONLY HALF-PRICE at Try Andy's Tri. Bring current USAT card and photo ID to pick up your packet in person if annual member. Please practice open water swimming beforehand to be safe. Tri TIME LIMIT is 1 HOUR, 55 MINUTES, no longer (10 min swim, 55 min bike, 45 min run/walk, 5 min total transition time). Those taking longer on each segment may be required to not continue by SLPD. FIELD LIMIT is only 650 for safety and always FILLS EARLY. Race benefits SIXTEEN great charities. Thanks! I strongly encourage ALL of our first-timers to take one of our FOUR Saturday morning First-Timer Tri Clinics. The majority of our entrants are local...Houston, Sugar Land, Katy, and Missouri City comprise the vast majority of our field. However, folks come in from all over Texas for this tri! Lots of good competition. SORRY, NOTE there are NO refunds, NO transfers of entry, NO deferrals for any reason. NO exceptions to this rule, as fees are already spent on a vast array of race expenses, as well as given to charity. Thanks for understanding and please do not email requesting.

USAT rule: AGE on 12/31/13 is race age
Each entrant's age is NOT the age on race day. USAT race age is each athlete's age on 12/31/13, the end of the racing year, for all triathlons. Please double-check this at packet pickup on your tear tag. Start waves are determined this way. Age group results are determined this way, as are annual rankings if you are an annual member. Thanks for your attention to this important detail.
20% OFF for TAT entrants at FLS
Prior to the race, come by Finish Line Sports in Sugar Land for your training needs. Mention you are doing TRY ANDY'S TRI and receive 20% OFF discount on any non-sale items, such as ASICS running shoes, TYR goggles, or race clothing. Regular hours are: Mon-Thur 10-6, Fri-Sat 10-5, closed Sunday. There will also be a coupon in your race packet. Thanks!

There will be a total of at least 10 kayaks for safety. Swim start is on the far side of the lake on Double Lakes Drive. (Ten-minute walk over there on sidewalk from transition area.) There will be five waves, starting at 7:15am. There are 5 minutes between Waves 1 and 2, then 10 minutes between each wave after. NOTE: Wave starts will be: Wave 1...7:15am Very small wave of Elite Triathletes (men currently 44:59 or better and women currently 51:59 or better, vying for First Overall), and any Blind athletes with guides. GREEN swim caps provided. Wave 1 athletes ARE eligible for Age Group awards. Wave 2...7:20am Individual MALES ages 39-and-under. RED swim caps provided. YOU MUST start in the correct wave in order to be scored! DQ otherwise. Wave 1 will be small. There will be about 120-150 athletes in Waves 2-5, but still with PLENTY of room to spread out. Slower swimmers, above 8 minutes, should stay to the far right for shallow water of three feet and four lifeguards on shore. Must be able to swim 10:00 or better for open-water 300 meters in order to participate. Thanks. Caps will be provided by color for each wave and must be worn for identification. Lake swim. Fifteen kayaks and four lifeguards will patrol the area. Practice in a lake beforehand! Wetsuits are allowed ONLY if water temp is 78 degrees or below on race morning, per USAT rules. Wetsuits were NOT allowed last year. THANKS. Practice open water swimming beforehand!!!
