About the Club
The Somerville Road Runners is a running club geared to all ages and abilities. No one is too slow, too old, too big, or too small for us. While many of us are very competitive, we never let that get in the way of a good time. You'll find that most SRR events conveniently begin or end at a local watering hole or eating establishment.
Memberships run from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 and are renewable on a yearly basis. Fees are not pro-rated, and are nonrefundable.
Family membership is defined as "Spouse or Domestic Partner, and/or minor children of primary member living at same address." This does not include adult siblings living together away from parents, cousins who are roommates, etc.
Membership and Track Fees are non-refundable.
Waiver and Release
The mission of Somerville Road Runners (“SRR”) is to provide the community with an organized venue in which to promote the sport of running and the benefits we believe it provides to all members, regardless of age or ability. These benefits include, but are not limited to, physical activity, which contributes to a healthy lifestyle, friendship, and social interaction as well as community outreach and support.
The Code of Conduct is created for the safety and benefit of SRR, its members and visitors. It is not meant to dictate all interpersonal relationships and interactions between members or between members and the community. Instead, the purpose of this policy is to set forth the basic principles of decency we expect members to follow so that members can achieve their running goals in a safe and fun environment.
As a SRR member, you agree to:
• Always show respect to your fellow club members;
• Always show respect and appreciation for the volunteers who give their time to help SRR and/or SRR events;
• Refrain from verbal (yelling, taunting, threatening) or physical violence upon anyone at a SRR race, or other club event;
• Refrain from making racial, ethnic, religious, age, sexual-orientation or gender-related slurs or derogatory comments at SRR events;
• Refrain from making unwanted sexual or physical contact with other members, volunteers or members of the community at SRR events. Members shall not act in a manner that can be deemed as sexual harassment, which includes unwelcome sexual advances, unwelcome requests for sexual favors and any other unwelcome verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature;
• Refrain from acting in a manner that disrupts or impedes SRR events;
Failure to follow the Code of Conduct may lead to a member’s expulsion from SRR.
Violations of the Code of Conduct are to be made in writing and presented to the President or the President's designee, who shall investigate promptly the circumstances of the allegations and report the findings to the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors shall review the findings of the President at its next scheduled meeting to determine whether further action is necessary. The Board, in its discretion, may fashion a remedy depending on the severity of the Code of Conduct violation. Sanctions may include, but are not limited to, a verbal warning, a written warning, referral of the matter to proper law enforcement, or the cancellation of SRR membership. The Board shall allow the accused member an opportunity to be heard, either in writing or in person, prior to any cancellation of any SRR membership. Somerville Road Runners, Inc. does not sell, rent, give or share your personal information to anyone or any organization. However, your name and likeness may be posted on the website or submitted to local media for marketing related to SRR events. We may use your email address to send out periodic emails from Somerville Road runners. I know that running is a potentially hazardous activity. I should not enter and run in club activities unless I am properly trained and medically able. Knowing this, and in consideration of accepting my membership fee, I hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, or anyone else who might claim on my behalf, covenant not to sue, and waive, release, and discharge the Somerville Road Runners Inc., including their agents, employees, assigns, or anyone acting on their behalf, from any and all claims of liability for death, personal injury, or property damage of any kind or nature whatsoever arising out of or in the course of my participation in this club. This release and waiver extends to all claims of every kind or nature, foreseen or unforeseen, known or unknown.
