About This Event
The 23rd annual Calvin 5k Spring Classic, presented by Aspen Investment Management Inc., is hosted by the Grand Rapids and Lakeshore area alumni networks. Proceeds directly benefit student scholarships and help put the Calvin experience within reach for remarkable students!
Registration Fees
$25 for 5k race if registered by April 5, 2013.
$27 for 5k race for entries received between April 7-25, 2013.
Online 5k registration will close at noon on April 25.
$30 for 5k race registration on April 26 and 27, 2013, accepted at packet pick-up and late registration ONLY; cash/check ONLY.
$18 5k registration for all students.
*$8 Fun Run (kids races) for children ages 3-9. Distance depends on age group, divided by heats.
Sorry, no refunds or transfers. In case of severe weather, race directors reserve the right to cancel the race without refund.

5k Run/Walk
9 a.m.
The USATF certified 5k course runs through Calvin's scenic, relatively flat college campus.
5k participants will recieve an Asics short sleeve moisture-wicking shirt. You must register by 5 p.m. on April 5, 2013 to guarantee shirt size.
For registrations after April 5, shirt sizes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at packet pick-up. Please come to packet pick-up early for the best selection of sizes. Shirts are unisex (men's) sizes and run large. Fun Run (kids races) children receive a short sleeve cotton t-shirt.
Karen Muyskens Family Fun Run (kids races)
10 a.m.
The Fun Run will be held in the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center’s indoor Sturrus Track and is for children ages 3-9.
There will be 3 different races divided by age groups. Distances will range from 100 yards to a quarter mile.
Youth participants will receive a short-sleeved cotton t-shirt and finisher ribbon. Fun Run participants may be included on a School Challenge team.
*$8 per child
*Parents may accompany very young children, and do not need to register to do this.
Striders Corporate Challenge
Promote health, fitness and fun among your employees by competing in the Striders Corporate Challenge.
Register for the 5k Spring Classic with four or more runners from your company or organization.
The team with the lowest score, using cross country-style scoring, will wins $250 and recognition at the awards ceremony!
Registration and fees must be received by April 19, 2013.
K4L Challenge
K4L (Knights for Life) is the student alumni association at Calvin. Calvin students may register for the Calvin 5K Spring Classic with a team of 4 or more fellow Calvin students. The winning team (determined by cross-country scoring) recieves $250 and recognition at the awards ceremony. NCAA athletes are encouraged to participate, but their portion of prize money will be deposited into the scholarship fund, in accordance with NCAA rules.

Registration and fees must be received by April 19, 2013.

D&W School Challenge
The D&W School Challenge is a community-building contest that promotes fitness at your school. Students, teachers, parents, grandparents and friends may all be included on your school's team. The 5k student entry fee is $15. See your D&W School Challenge representative for the on-line discount code. The dicount code will be applied before checkout. Registrations must be recieved by April 19, 2013 to count toward the School Challenge. Contact Lori Feenstra at (616) 526-8425 or for details on how your school can get involved.
Post-Race Party
The Post-Race Party will be held in the Hoogenboom Health and Recreation Center inside the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex.
Participants are invited to enjoy post-race refreshments.
All race participants present at the awards ceremony are eligible for drawings.
Awards Ceremony
Awards will be given to the overall male and female 5k runners as well as the top three male and female 5k runners in each of the following age categories:

10 and under,
75-79 and
80 and over.

I certify that I am medically able and properly trained for the Event. I expressly assume all known and unknown risks associated with the Event, including but not limited to loss or damage to my property, injury (including death), accidents, the effects of weather, terrain conditions that may vary widely, and the possibility that the Event may be postponed, ended early or cancelled. In consideration of my participation in the Event, I for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, personal representatives, successors and assigns 1) WAIVE AND RELEASE ANY AND ALL RIGHTS, CLAIMS AND CAUSES OF ACTION I have or may have, including court costs, attorneys' fees and litigation expenses against Calvin College and the Calvin Alumni Association (“Calvin”) that may arise as a result of my participation in the Event including my death, personal injury, partial or permanent disability, negligence, property damage and damages of any kind, property theft, and any claims for medical or hospital expenses (“Claims”),even if Claims are caused by the negligent acts, omissions, or the carelessness of Calvin, and 2) agree to INDEMNIFY, DEFEND AND HOLD HARMLESS CALVIN from and against any and all injuries, losses, causes of action, liabilities, damages, expenses (including but not limited to court costs, attorney’s fees and litigation expenses) that may arise out of or resulting from, directly or indirectly, my participation in the Event unless caused by the gross negligence or willful misconduct of Calvin.
