About This Event
The Onion Man Triathlon is an olympic distance race at the base of the Blue Mountains. The course is a 2-loop lake swim with an out and back scenic bike and run. The Onion Man Triathlon is a TRI NORTHWEST RANKED race. The race will be timed using the ChampionChip timing system by AA Sports, Ltd
1.5 km 2 loop swim at Bennington Lake. Water temperature will be approximately 63-68 degrees. Wet suits are recommended. 40 km Bike is an out and back scenic ride up Mill Creek Road with a slight elevation gain returning back to the transition area at the lake. 10 km Run will be a moderate course on a gravel road as well as the paved bike path along the river through Rooks Park with no major hills.
A post race meal is included with the entry fee. The meal will be served following the race. Awards are given out to the first overall male and female winners and the top 3 male and female finishers in each age group(excluding the overall male and female finishers). The age groups are divided into 5 year increments. There will also be awards given in the Clydesdale and Athena categories. The team age groups are total ages of 105 and under and 106 an over. ChampionChip Timed.
Packet pick up will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Bicycle Barn Cycle and Fitness, 1503 E. Isaacs, (509)529-7860, from 3:00 -6:00 p.m. and also Sunday, May 26, from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. at Bennington Lake, the starting point of the race. The pre-race meeting begins at 8:30 and the race begins at 9:00 a.m. NO DAY OF RACE REGISTRATION!
Coming from Hwy 12, take Walla Walla Community College/Walla Walla Regional Airport exit, (Hwy 12 East turn right on Tausick Way. Hwy 12 West turn left on Tausick Way) Turn left on Reservoir Road and follow the signs to Bennington Lake.
A portion of the proceeds from this year's race will go towards the Teri L. Kuhlman Cancer Foundation. These proceeds will be sent to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle. Teri was an avid triathlete for the past 13+ years and was a member of the organization committee for the Onion Man Triathlon. If you would like to make an additional non-profit donation, there will be a place to do so on the fee page. Thank You in advance for your support. We Miss You Teri!

I know that participating in a triathlon, regardless of the distance, includes an element of risk. I should not enter and participate in the Onion Man Triathlon unless I am medically able and properly trained. I agree to abide by any decision of an event official relative to my ability to compete in this event safely, and I further agree that event officials may authorize necessary emergency treatment for me. I also understand that, although traffic control will be provided, both vehicle traffic and spectators may be present along the course and I assume the risk of participating under such conditions. I further assume the risk of participating under such conditions. I further assume any and all other risks associated with spectators or other participants, the effect of the weather (including temperature extremes and humidity), and the surface condition of the roads and sidewalks, all such risks being understood and appreciated by me. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, an in consideration of the acceptance of my entry, I hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators or anyone else who might claim on my behalf, covenant not to sue, and waive, release, and discharge, Walla Walla County, Onion Man Triathlon, Walla Walla Union Bulletin, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the City of Walla Walla, Walla Walla Community College, Walla Walla Fire Fighters Local #404, event officials, volunteers and any and all other sponsors, suppliers, agents, independent contractors, employees and any other personnel in any way assisting or connected with this event, even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons or parties named in this waiver. I understand that I am responsible to return the Timing Chip assigned to me or to pay a $30.00 replacement fee.
