About This Event
This 9th Annual race is a spring favorite! Our location will be at Lake Hefner. (Windsufer Park Area) A great race for just $25.00! The INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Courage Run 5km and 10km run/walk, 1.2 mile Family Fun Run/Walk, 5km and 10km Wheelchair and Handcycle Divisions will showcase the beautiful Lake Hefner Area. Our course is sanctioned and certified by DG Roadracing. It is an event you will not want to miss. Registration online will close at 8:00 a.m. on 5-2-13. On site registration Saturday will be 30.00 and we will have T Shirts until we run out.
Please register early to guarantee t-shirt/goodie bag! Race day entry fee is $30.00.
Date and Time
May 4th 2013 at 8:00a.m. We will start the morning off with our Fun Run/Walk. 8:30 a.m. will be the start for our 5km and 10km events.
The 10km,5km and 1 mile fun run/walk will begin at the North Pavilion Area at Lake Hefner. Exit off Hefner Road. (North of Louie's) Race maps are posted on the INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe website at:
Awards are given for the 5km and 10km in the following categories: Top 3 finishers for each wheelchair and handcycle divisions: 5K and 10k Wheelchair – Open Quad, Open Male, Open Female; 5k and 10k Handcycle – Open Quad, Open Para, Open (Amp, BI, CP, etc.);
Overall Male/Female Open Division, Overall Male/Female Masters Division, Top 3 in each age group (beginning with 12 and under, 13-15, 16-19 and then in 5 year increments as per USATF). These are some of the biggest and best medals you'll see at a race. Finisher Ribbons provided to the Fun Run/Walk/Wheel participants. Team awards include: 1)Largest Team (2) Team with best T-shirt design. We will need to see your T Shirt 1 week before the event. A sample Team T Shirt can be dropped off to Jim Thorpe Administration @ 4219 South Western Oklahoma City, Okla.73109. Please label your shirt sample with the team name and a contact person and phone number. We will return your shirt on race day. (They will be at the awards table @ the Courage Run for display race day.) Our judges will be rehabilitation patients voting on the best overall T-Shirt design.
Entry for all events (10km,5km, and fun/walk run) is just $25.00. (includes T-shirt, goodie bag and post run refreshments) Wheelchair and Handcycle Divisions are $20.00. INTEGRIS employees and family members are 20.00. (Children under 10 are free for the Fun run/walk please note the free event does not include a T shirt.) Race day entry fee is $30.00 for all events (10km,5km and 1 mile). Sign up early! This in an event you won't want to miss.
T-Shirt /Packet Pick-up
Packet pick up be SOUTH @ Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Hospital 4219 South Western. Oklahoma City, Okla. 73109 on THURSDAY May 2nd 2013 from 12:30pm 6:00 p.m. North Packet Pick up will be on Friday May 3rd 2013 from 12:00-6:00 at Red Coyote 5800 N Classen Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73118. Packets may be picked up on race day at the event site from 6:30am until 7:45am.
Refreshements will be provided to competitors and volunteers.
Courage Run Purpose
The 9th Annual 2013 INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Courage Run benefits patients at the INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Hospital and honors their courage! This year our focus will be on sending patients to Stroke Camp!

Wheelchair and Handcycle Division Information
10k, 5k Wheelchair and Handcycle Divisions and 1 mile fun push.
Race Start – Saturday May 4th 2013
1.2 mile Fun Push starts at 8:00a.m.
5k and 10k Wheelchair and Handcycle divisions begin at 8:30 a.m.Racers report to start line area by 8:20 a.m.
Fun Push - Open. race is not timed.
5K and 10k Wheelchair – Open Quad, Open Male, Open Female;
5k and 10k Handcycle – Open Quad, Open Para, Open (Amp, BI, CP, etc.)
• Complete the wheelchair or handcycle divisions and disability level of official entry form for the Courage Run. See race registration for details.
Drawing: Prizes totaling over $20,000!!!
•All present race participants that are wheelchair users will be entered into drawing for a free ultralight wheelchair or specialty cushion.
•Accessible parking will be available at the start/finish area (see website for directions) Space is limited and access to parking will be closed at 7:30am.
•Helmets are required for all competitors. Chin straps must be buckled at all times while on handcycle or in a racing wheelchair. You will not be able to race without a helmet.
•Stay as far to the right side of the lane possible. Pass only on the left (within the lane) and then immediately return to the right. Violation of this rule is blocking. Let the faster racers go through to the left of you.
•When approaching another racer, prior to passing, yell “On Left!”
•Follow the directions of the Race Officials without question.
•No head phones! Be alert and aware. Know the course.
•Turnaround points are tight!!!!! Slow down prior to turnaround point. Stay to outside to make a wide turn. Outside Assistance will be available from race officials at turnaround point but will result in a 10 second penalty.

Waiver and Release
I know that running a road race is a potentially hazardous activity. I should not enter and run unless I am medically able and properly trained. I also know that there will be a possibility of traffic on the course. I assume the risk of running in traffic. I also assume any and all other risks associated with running this event including, but not limited to falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather and the conditions of the roads, all such risks being known and appreciated by me. Furthermore, I agree to yield to all emergency vehicles. I also am fully aware that baby strollers and wheels of any kind (except competitive wheelchairs), animals and head phones are strictly prohibited and I agree not to have them on the course. Furthermore, I agree not to go back into the course after finishing. I am fully aware that it is a fraudulent act to switch race numbers with any one or allow anyone other than myself to wear my race number and I agree not to do this. Knowing these facts, and in consideration of your accepting my entry, I hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators or anyone else who might claim on my behalf, covenant not to sue and waive and release and discharge any and all race sponsors, race officials, volunteers, INTEGRIS HEALTH, INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Hospital, local and state police including any and all of their agents, employees, assigns or anyone acting for, or on their behalf, from any and all claims or liability for personal injury or property damage of any kind or nature whatsoever that may arise out of, or in the source of, my participating in this event and/or travel to/from event whether same be caused by negligence or fault. This release and waiver extends to all claims of every kind or nature whatsoever, foreseen or unforeseen, known or unknown. The undersigned grants permission to sponsors and/or agents authorized by them to use any photos, video tapes, motion pictures, or any other record of this event for any purpose. Minors accepted only with a parent or guardian's signature.
