Cantigny (pronounced "Can - Tee - Knee")

Cantigny, Part of the McCormick Foundation, is the 500+ acre estate of Colonel Robert R. McCormick, former Editor and Publisher of the Chicago Tribune. Cantigny, comprised of gardens and grounds, the Robert R. McCormick Museum, the First Division Museum and a 27 hole championship public golf course, affords the visitor a vast array of educational as well as recreational experiences.
Cantigny 5K Run/Walk 2013

The Cantigny 5K Run/Walk is a benefit for the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.

The course will start from the Visitors Center parking lot and will run through the grounds, across the rolling hills of the Cantigny Golf Course and will finish near the Visitors Center.

After the awards ceremony and the Youth/Tot runs, enjoy free access to the grounds and museums for the rest of the afternoon.
Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans

All proceeds from the 2013 Cantigny 5K Run/Walk will benefit the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans. The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans is a not-for-profit transitional living facility that provides assistance to U.S. veterans of any era for the opportunity to return to useful and productive lives by providing them with the skills for independent living.

Their mission: “To Serve Those Who Served the Nation.”
The 5K Course

The 5K course is USATF (#IL-04078-JW) Certified entirely on Cantigny grounds and a blacktop surface. The race starts at the Visitor Center and proceeds out onto the Cantigny Golf course and back to the Visitor Center. Participants will run past the 1st Division Museum, the Robert R. McCormick Museum and finish by running through Cantigny Gardens to the Visitors Center. The portion on the golf course will be run on the cart paths. Digital clocks or timers will be located at mile markers.
American Legion Cantigny Post 556 Pancake Breakfast

This year the American Legion Cantigny Post 556 will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast at Le Jardin Restaurant in the Visitors Center at Cantigny Park from 7 am – 1 pm, eggs, sausage, biscuits, and gravy included.

Only $6 advance or $7 day of per person; $2 for children 4 and under.

5K Run/Walk: $25.00
Youth and Tot Run: $10:00
Donation to Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans: Optional

All registrants will receive a free race t-shirt.
Youth & Tot runners will receive a finishing medal upon completion of course.

There is a $5.00 discount to active duty military that presents their ID.

No Refunds will be given. All proceeds benefit Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.
Registration Limit

5K Run/Walk race participation is limited to the first 1000 entries.

On-line registration is available through Thursday October 31, 2013.

***There will be no race day registration.***

Registration will remain available until the limits are reached or 4:00 pm Thursday October 31, 2013, which ever occurs first.

Registration packets may be picked-up from the Visitors Center, located at Cantigny Park, on Friday November 1, 2013 from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm.

Avoid the crowds the morning of the race.

Parking fee will be waived for registered runners.
Race Results

All participants in the 5K and in the Youth Run will be chipped timed by Mattoon Multisport and given the opportunity to review their results, after the race.

Results will include finish time, pace, overall finish position, age and division place.

The Tot Run will not be chipped timed.

Final results will be posted at and at, in a timely manner.
Award Ceremony

At approximately 10:00 am, outside the Visitors Center, near the finish line, the awards and prizes will be presented to the top three male and female overall finishers and for the top three male and female finishers in each five-year age group. The top three male and female overall finishers will not be eligible in the five-year age groups.

The age groups are as follows: 1-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, and 75+.

The top three male and female overall finishers for the youth and tot runs will also receive an award immediately following the end of the race.

Awards will be given only to registered runners with a valid registration bib. The official race results provided by Mattoon Multisport will be used for overall and age group rankings.
Youth and Tot Run

The Youth Run is for children ages 6 to 10 and the Tot Run is for children ages 1 to 5. Races will start following the 5K Run/Walk award ceremony. Youth Run is 1-Mile in length and the Tot Run is approximately ¼ - mile. Only the Youth Run will be chipped timed. Registration for the Youth and Tot Run will close when the 5 K Run/Walk registrations closes.
Youth & Tot Run Awards

The top three male and female overall finishers for the Youth and Tot Run will be awarded a youth plaque with their respective finishing place. Awards will be given only to registered runners with a valid registration numbered bib. All youth and tot runners will also receive a finishing medal.
Parking & Facilities

Ample free parking for race participants and volunteers is available close to the Visitors Center so participants can leave gear in their car. Registration, refreshments, restrooms and the awards ceremony (in case of inclement wheather) will be located inside the Visitors Center.

After the race, stay for refreshments and award presentations in the Visitors Center, then enjoy the many features of Cantigny Park.

Bicycles, Strollers, Etc.

Bicycles, in-line skates, roller skates, scooters, other wheeled vehicles (except wheelchairs), and dogs are not allowed on the course, will not be allowed through the finish chutes, and will not be included in results. Runners with baby strollers may not run competitively and must start after and remain behind runners for the entire race.

In consideration of my participation in the Cantigny 5K Run/Walk, on behalf of myself, my heirs, legatees, personal representatives and all those claiming by or through me, I do hereby waive, discharge and release and forever hold harmless the Cantigny Foundation, the McCormick Foundation, servants, governing bodies, directors, officers, representatives, employees and volunteer staff of each of them (each, a “Released Party” and collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any and all current and future claims, legal actions, losses, damage or expenses for personal or bodily injury (including death) arising out of or in any way related to my participation in the Cantigny 5K Run/Walk and any of its associated activities I agree to indemnify (protect against loss) and hold harmless the Released Parties, from any loss or liability (including any reasonable attorneys fees they may incur) defending any claim made by me or by anyone making a claim on my behalf, even if the claim is alleged to or did result from the carelessness or negligence of a Released Party or anyone else. Cantigny Foundation and McCormick Foundation any transferee or licensee of them may use and reproduce for any purpose, including commercial purposes, my name, voice likeness and any and all photographs, sketches, motion pictures and soundtracks taken or made of me in connection with the Cantigny 5K Run/Walk and I waive my right to inspection or review of such materials. I am of legal age and capacity and have read and understand the contents of this consent and release. In filling out this form, I attest and verify that I am physically fit and sufficiently trained for this event. If any provision of this consent and release shall be unlawful, void, or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision shall be deemed severable from this consent and release and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions.
