Avenue of the Giants
About This Event
The Avenue of the Giants is one of the most beautiful races in the world! This will be the 43rd running of the Avenue of the Giants Marathon. Just announced: our marathon course has been chosen as the RRCA Western Regional Championship course. All three courses run through old growth redwoods and follow a natural creek in the middle of a state park. It makes running a breeze and great fun for all. Hope to see you there!
Staged on "The Avenue of the Giants" in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, located in rural northern California. Course is on a paved road that winds through giant redwoods, it is certified and sanctioned by USAT&F (United States of America Track & Field). Marathon is a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon.
Overall prizes are awarded to top finishing male and female in each event including the 10k. Also awarded in the Marathon and the 1/2 Marathon are Masters, Grand Masters and Senior Grand Masters: these awards are given at our awards ceremony race day starting @ 12:30. There is no double dipping, so if a master wins the overall race then the second age group winner becomes the first in the age group awards. Divisions are every 5 years from age 20 with an under 19 listing in both marathon and the 1/2 marathon. All finishers will receive a medal upon completion. Age group medals will be given 1st - 3rd. Age group medals will be mailed, this gives us time to clean up our results for more accurate awarding! The 10k is a fun run event without age group awards.
Marathon Information Only
We are now the designated Western Regional Championship course for the Marathon in 2014! In honor of this event we are going to offer cash awards to the overall Female and Male winners. Also, we are only offering the first 100 marathoners a patch, so if you receive one you are one of the elite runners at our event and in the top 100 finishers. There is a 6.5 hour limit on the marathon course. Congratulations and good training.
Packets will be available for pick-up Saturday, May 3rd, on site at the Dyerville Bridge overlook (near the start of the race) from Noon to 6:00 pm. Limited marathon race day registration or packet pick up will be available this year, race day packet pick-up is primarily for 1/2 marathon and 10k runners, we will be open at 7:00 for packet pick up on race day for those races. T-shirt sizes and goodie bags are only guaranteed for Saturday pick-up, Sunday is first come, first served.
Disposable chip timing with start, turn-around, and finish pads. Chips are part of the number packet. Packets will not be mailed. The start of the race is gun timed, if you are late you will be considered as starting the race at the gun time not the chip time, the finish is chip recorded. Please do not let the fact that we are chip timed at the start as an excuse to miss the true start of your race. Age group awards will be based on a gun start and a chip finish, you cannot start the event 30 minutes late and win with a chip time...sorry, no exceptions!! The start pads will record the first 8 minutes of the start or longer if the line to the start is full, we do not expect longer than a 4 minute time for all starters to cross the first timing pad...those chip times will be excepted as the gun start...BMQ will be chip to chip timed. Thank you.
There are no refunds. T-shirts will not be mailed, must be picked up on site. Change of race to a different event will incur the cost of the more expensive event with no refund in switching to a lesser event.
