About This Event
The 24th annual Calvin 5k Spring Classic, presented by Aspen Investment Management Inc., is hosted by the Grand Rapids and Lakeshore area alumni networks. Proceeds directly benefit student scholarships and help put the Calvin experience within reach for remarkable students!
$25 per person for 5k race if registered by April 4, 2014.
$28 per person 5k race for entries received between April 5-24, 2014.
Online 5k registration will close at noon on April 24.
$30 per person for 5k race registration on April 25 and 26, 2014, accepted at packet pick-up and late registration ONLY; cash/check ONLY.
$18 5k registration for all students.
$8 Fun Run (kids races) for children ages 3-9. Distance depends on age group, divided by heats.
Sorry, no refunds or transfers. In case of severe weather, race directors reserve the right to cancel the race without refund.

The USATF certified 5k course runs through Calvin's scenic, relatively flat college campus. The 5k walk will start along with the 5k race, with walkers starting just behind runners. Push strollers and hand cyclists are welcome. All participants must be registered and have a race number to participate.
New for 2014, we are offering a handcycle division. Handcycles will start just before runners. Handcycles must yield to runners in the event that the runners catch up with handcycles.
5k participants will recieve a short sleeve 100% pre-shrunk cotton t-shirt to commemorate your achievement. You must register by 5 p.m. on April 4, 2014 to reserve your shirt size.
For registrations after April 4,2014, shirt sizes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at packet pick-up. Please come to packet pick-up early for the best selection of sizes. Shirts are unisex (men's) sizes.
Fun Run (kids races) children receive a short sleeve cotton t-shirt.
Karen Muyskens Family Fun Run (kids races)
The Fun Run will be held in the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center’s indoor Sturrus Track and is for children ages 3-9.
Races are divided by age groups. Distances range from 100 yards to a quarter mile.
Youth participants will receive a short-sleeved cotton t-shirt and finisher ribbon. Fun Run participants may be included on a School Challenge team.
*$8 per child
*Parents may accompany very young children (no registration needed for parents)
Striders Corporate Challenge
Build a team and promote fitness and fun with your co-workers!
Register for the 5k Spring Classic with four or more runners from your workplace.
The team with the lowest score (determined by cross country scoring) wins $250 and recognition at the awards ceremony!
Registration and fees must be received by April 18, 2014.
D&W School Challenge
The D&W School Challenge is a community-building contest that promotes fitness at your school. Students, teachers, parents, grandparents and friends may all be included on your school's team. The 5k student entry fee is $15. See your D&W School Challenge representative for the on-line discount code. The dicount code will be applied before checkout.
Registrations must be recieved by April 18, 2014 to count toward the School Challenge.

President's Shoe Challenge
Calvin faculty and staff, here is your chance to build departmental pride and a sense of team spirit, while competing for the Illustrious President’s Shoe Trophy. Build a team of 4 or more colleagues. Teams must consist of at least 3 Calvin faculty or staff; immediate household family members may also compete on your team. The President’s Right Shoe Trophy will be awarded to the team with the most participants. The President’s Left Shoe Trophy will be awarded to the team with the fastest time, as determined by cross country scoring.
The Post-Race Party will be held in the Hoogenboom Health and Recreation Center inside the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex.
Participants are invited to enjoy post-race refreshments.
All race participants present at the awards ceremony are eligible for drawings.
Awards CeremonyAwards will be given to the overall male and female 5k runners as well as the top three male and female 5k runners in each of the following age categories:
10 and under,
80 and over.

By signing, I acknowledge that my participation in the 5K Run/Walk and/or Karen Muyskens Family Fun Run or any pre-or post-Event activities (“Event”) involves rigorous physical activity and that it potentially may be hazardous. I certify that I am medically able and properly trained for the Event. I expressly assume all known and unknown risks associated with the Event, including but not limited to loss or damage to my property, injury (including death), accidents, the effects of weather, terrain conditions that may vary widely, and the possibility that the Event may be postponed, ended early or cancelled. In consideration of my participation in the Event, I for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, personal representatives, successors and assigns 1) WAIVE AND RELEASE ANY AND ALL RIGHTS, CLAIMS AND CAUSES OF ACTION I have or may have, including court costs, attorneys' fees and litigation expenses against Calvin College and the Calvin Alumni Association (“Calvin”) that may arise as a result of my participation in the Event including my death, personal injury, partial or permanent disability, negligence, property damage and damages of any kind, property theft, and any claims for medical or hospital expenses (“Claims”),even if Claims are caused by the negligent acts, omissions, or the carelessness of Calvin, and 2) agree to INDEMNIFY, DEFEND AND HOLD HARMLESS CALVIN from and against any and all injuries, losses, causes of action, liabilities, damages, expenses (including but not limited to court costs, attorney’s fees and litigation expenses) that may arise out of or resulting from, directly or indirectly, my participation in the Event unless caused by the gross negligence or willful misconduct of Calvin.

I acknowledge and agree to abide by the rules for the Event that may be posted by Calvin or on Calvin’s website or otherwise communicated to me verbally or in writing.
