From Boston: U.S. Route 1 South to Route 203. Follow 203 for one mile to rotary, go 3/4-mile and follow signs to Franklin Park. The course is 3/4- mile on left.
From North: Route 93 South to Exit 15 (Columbia Road). Follow three miles to Franklin Park.
From South: Route 93 North to Exit 11B (Route 203; Granite Avenue), then bear right and follow Route 203 for four miles to rotary. Follow signs to Franklin Park/Franklin Park Zoo. Or, take U.S. Route 1 North to Route 203.
From West: Take the Massachusetts Turnpike to Route 93 South. Then, at Exit 15, follow directions “From North” (above).
SUBWAY: Take the MBTA’s Orange Line to Forest Hills, then walk one mile to Franklin Park.
Parking Limited parking (very limited) is available at two lots along Circuit Drive, leading to The Playstead, and on Circuit Drive itself. Please cooperate with Boston Park Rangers giving directions, and do not park in spaces dedicated to the golf club or zoo.
Please carpool if possible!! Parking is quite limited around the course.

The Course

Races start and finish at Playstead Field near White Stadium at the entrance to the Zoo. The Franklin Park course is 99% grass and dirt with excellent footing.

The Mayor’s Cup Cross Country races occur within historic Franklin Park, part of Frederick Law Olmsted’s renowned Emerald Necklace park system and located five miles southwest of downtown Boston. Both the start and finish lines, along with race registration and awards presentations, are at The Playstead: a large field conveniently located within the park and bordered by White Stadium, Franklin Park Zoo and Franklin Park’s William Devine Golf Course. The Franklin Park course is entirely cross country, comprised almost exclusively of grass and dirt. In the true spirit of cross country running, the course is challenging with equal parts run on flats and hills. Although each of the Mayor’s Cup races traverse fields, wide trails and grass pathways, the footing is excellent. Many participants in the Championship races prefer to wear spikes, but racing flats and/or trainers are also acceptable, especially in the girls and boys races and Franklin Park 5k.
• Girls and Boys will run one lap around White Stadium, including Bear Cage Hill.
• Participants in the Franklin Park 5k and the Women's Championship 5k will run three loops.
• Men in the Championship 8k will run four loops.
Meet History
For 12 years the Boston Athletic Association and adidas have been partners with USATF New England in developing the Mayor's Cup Cross Country races into a premier competition for the City of Boston. Regarded as one of the most competitive cross country events in the eastern United States, many top level clubs use the Mayor's Cup to prepare for the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships. Colleges also have found that the event is good preparation for the championship portion of their season.

The Franklin Park 5k offers the same race course and cross country experience as the Women's Championship 5k and the Men's Championship 8k. The race seeks to give local runners, especially road racers, perhaps their single cross country racing opportunity of the year. Also, the Franklin Park 5k has been slotted within the schedule of events to allow participants to watch the championship competitions. Team scoring - as in the other races - will be featured in the Franklin Park 5k.

Girls and boys participate in the kids 1.1-mile races in preparation for either Junior Olympic cross country qualifying or -as in most cases- for the sheer fun of it.

Besides lending support to the Mayor's Cup, the B.A.A. organizes the B.A.A. Half Marathon and the Boston Marathon, the world's oldest and most prestigious annual marathon. In 2008, the B.A.A. hosted the U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Women's Marathon. Learn more about the organization, running club, and its events at www.baa.org. Boston Centers for Youth & Families stages Mayor's Cup events in more than a dozen sports and in each of Boston's neighborhoods. The cross country championship traditionally culminates the schedule for the calendar year.
GIRLS AND BOYS 1.1-MILE RACES
For youths 14 and under.
Distance: 1.1 miles
Entry fee: $5.00
Every finisher will receive a Mayor’s Cup medal!
Individual Awards: Winners of the 10-and-under, 11 and 12 year old, and 13 and 14 year old age divisions, both boys and girls, will receive awards.
Second and third place finishers will receive medals.
Team scoring: Scoring by clubs' top three finishers in each race for each gender.
Team must be a bona fide youth club or school. Only one team per club or school will be scored.
Team Awards: Scoring members of the first, second and third place clubs (girls and boys) will receive medals.
Awards Presentation: 11:15 a.m
FRANKLIN PARK 5k
Men and women will run together in this combined race. The minimum age for participation in the Franklin Park 5k is 15 years old.
Distance: 5 kilometers (3.1 miles)
Entry fee: $15.00 if received by Wednesday, October 21 (early registration). $20 if received on Thursday, October 22 to race day (late registration). Teams with seven or more entries receive $2 off each entry ($13.00 each) when received together by October 21.
Individual Awards: Top five men and top five women overall will receive awards. Winners of the 40-49, 50-59, and 60-69, and 70-and-older age groups will receive medals.
Team Scoring: Top three finishers per men’s and women’s teams score by place. For the Franklin Park 5k, teams do not have to be registered USATF clubs. However, men’s and women’s scoring teams must be club, corporate, community or college-based.
Team Awards: Scoring members of the winning teams will receive an award.
CHAMPIONSHIP 5k & 8k
Anticipated finishing times of 21:00 or under for the women's 5k and 30:00 or under for the men's 8k are guidelines for participation in the Championship races.
Eligibility:
Minimum age for participation in the Championship races is 18-years old, or by specific invitation. To request an invitation, contact office@usatfne.org.

Entry fee:
$15.00 if received by Wednesday, October 21 (early registration).
$20 if received on Thursday, October 22 or later, and on-site on race day (late registration).
Teams with seven or more entries receive $2 off each entry ($13.00 each) when received together by October 21.

Individual Awards: Revere bowls to the overall winner, and first place 40-and-older finisher.
Prize money will be awarded to the first five eligible finishers. Holding current USATF or foreign federation membership and proper visa is required on race day to be eligible for prize money. High school and collegiate athletes are not eligible for prize money.

In exchange for acceptance of this entry, I for myself, my executors, administrators and assigns, do hereby release any rights and claims for damages I may have against the Boston Athletic Association, adidas, USA Track & Field, USA Track & Field - New England, the City of Boston, and any and all sponsors and individuals involved with the presentation and conduct of the Mayor's Cup Cross Country races. I hereby attest that I have full knowlege of the risk involved in running this race, and I am physically fit and sufficiently trained to complete this race. No one may compete with a dog or pet of any kind, nor may any runner compete wearing headphones. As a cross country race, each participant should be prepared for the terrain described in the course description of this application.
