About This Event
Race Away from Domestic Violence is a 5K run/walk/wheelchair roll. The event is a benefit for the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence. ICADV is committed to the elimination of domestic violence throughout Indiana. Our primary focus is to provide public awareness and education, advocate for systemic and societal change, and influence public policy and the allocation of resources. In addition to promoting statewide comprehensive domestic violence services, ICADV also offers technical assistance and training to coalition members, houses an extensive resource library, operates a statewide 24-hour toll-free crisis line and provides legal assistance to low-income victims of domestic violence. To achieve our mission, ICADV collaborates with numerous state and local agencies, including all of the Indiana domestic violence shelters.
Courses
The start and finish will be on New York Street just outside of the Track Statium. The course will use New York Street, West Street, Washington Street and White River Parkway W. Drive. The course is fairly flat, and will have a water station along the way.
Awards
Running Company gift certificates will be awarded to the top finishers in the 5K (5 year increments). Finishers medals to all boys and girls age 14 and under.
Time Schedule
Registration/Packet Pick-Up is from 6:45AM to 8:00AM. Hot Air Balloon Release is at 7:30AM, Opening Ceremonies begin at 7:40AM, Start of 5K is at 8AM, Kiddie Romp is at 9:05AM, Awards Ceremony is at 9:20AM. There will be an exhibitor’s area that is open before and after the races.
Details
Please, no dogs or skates. Strollers are permissible. You must maintain a 18 minute per-mile for the 5K event. For the Competitive 5K, you will be given an IPICO timing tag that you must return after you finish. If you do not return this tag, you will be charged $20 by the event organizers. A hot air balloon ride, donated by Mike Nelson of Tickled Pink Balloon Promotions, will also be raffled off at the race. The value of the ride is $400 for a one hour ride for two people. It also includes a standard champagne toast, etc., that is typically part of a hot air balloon ride. Raffle ticket prices are $10 per ticket and more than one raffle ticket can be purchased. Winner will be announced at the conclusion of the event and does not need to be present. The actual ride will be scheduled for a date following the walk (the ride will NOT occur on the day of the walk).
Parking
All participants are encouraged to park in the BARNHILL Garage on the IUPUI Campus. This garage is located directly across New York Street from the IU Track Stadium. Cost per vehicle is $4.
Pledges
ICADV encourages all participants to seek pledges. Awards will be presented to three participants who collect the most pledges. Pledge forms and money may be turned in at the event site or to ICADV by August 25, 2008. Pledge forms are located online at Violence Resources. Pledges can be made to the organization at First Giving or by sponsoring a race participant registered on www.firstgiving.com fundraising site. Team and race participants can also create a free web page to collect pledges at First Giving.
TEAMS
*** DEADLINE for TEAM entries is TUESDAY, August 11 *** ICADV is allowing teams in this year's event. Groups of families, friends, co-workers are welcome to set up a team, An award will be given to the team with the most participants. A minimum of four participants is required per team.

Waiver and Release
In consideration of the foregoing, I, for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators, waive and release any and all rights and claims for damages I may have against any of the sponsors, organizers, Indiana War Memorial, Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, City of Indianapolis, Tuxedo Brothers, Inc., their employees, contractors, volunteers for any and all claims of damages, demands or loss actions whatsoever which may arise as a result of my participation in this event. I attest and verify that I am physically fit and have sufficiently trained for the completion of this event and my physical condition has been verified by a licensed medical doctor. I also understand the unique nature of this run/walk event. I understand that I will be issued a timing device if I sign up for at competitive event. I agree to immediately return this timing device after the race, or pay a $20 replacement fee to cover the cost. Further, I grant full permission to any and all of the foregoing to use my likeness for any legitimate purpose whatsoever.
