About This Event
5k, 7k Great Escape Eliminator Challenge
Why can’t a race be fun to WATCH too??
Shouldn’t a race be entertaining?
It’s time to ask more from a run. It’s time to bring your strategy!
It’s time to bring your HEART.
For the spectators, it’s time to bring your cowbell, and your cheering voices for the greatest little race
of the year and the best way to start the running season.

Here’s how it’s gonna go down: At 9:00am there will be a free 1/2k kids race for ages 6 and under. Then at 9:05am, the main event begins. A beautiful 5k flat and fast course from Salem Riverfront Park into Wallace Marine Park and back. Clock timed. Walkers and strollers welcome. Most runners won’t qualify for the second race, but they will be rewarded with the spectacle of the Eliminator Challenge.

1.The top 18 men and the top 18 women from the 5k will qualify for the Eliminator course, a quarter mile loop around the Amphitheater back to the Pavilion. Spectators will be encouraged to line the course.

2.After a 15 minute break, the women will do five laps of the mini-course. After two laps, the last five runners are retired, and the remaining 13 runners escape and continue running.

3.One more quick lap, and the last five runners are retired, with eight escaping.

4.After lap number four, five more runners are retired, leaving the top three to escape for a final 5th lap.

5.The men’s race will follow. All participants in the Eliminator get a special gift from our sponsor, Gallagher’s Fitness Resources. The top 3 receive medals.

This is a fundraiser designed around a classic movie, “The Great Escape” and is hosted by the Exchange Clubs of Salem / Keizer and Escape (Exchange Sponsored Child Abuse Prevention Effort) which operates a child abuse prevention program in Salem, Oregon.
What better way to show you care than by participating in this great event and have some fun at the same time!
Check in and registration will be at the Centennial Pavilion at Salem's Riverfront Park for the start of the race. The eliminator will start at the Pavilion and loop around the Amphitheatre
